Melon Smoothie with Berry Mix

Taste

Light, juicy and fruity, sweet from the melon with a tart berry edge; thin rather than creamy.

About this smoothie

This is one of the lightest smoothies you can make: honeydew melon has a high water content and a mild, honeyed sweetness, and the frozen berry mix (usually raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and redcurrants) adds tartness, deep colour and fibre. Because the berries come straight from the freezer, no ice is needed. Berries are known for their vitamin C content. The drink suits hot days, a light breakfast or a refreshing glass after exercise.

Bartender tips

  • Taste your melon first: if it is not very sweet, add a teaspoon of honey.
  • Blend longer if your berry mix contains blackberries, so the seeds break down.

Variations

With cantaloupe
Use orange cantaloupe instead of honeydew for a more aromatic, slightly musky flavour.
