Melon Pear Smoothie with Fruit Tea

Honeydew melon is mostly water, which makes this one of the lightest smoothies you can blend. A ripe pear adds body and a honeyed sweetness.

About this smoothie

Honeydew melon has a high water content and a mild, sweet flavour, so it turns into a juicy, thin smoothie in seconds. Pear gives it more substance and a soft, grainy sweetness. Instead of plain water, cooled fruit tea brings a little acidity and colour depth. There are no dairy products and no added sugar, which keeps the drink light. It suits hot days, a relaxed breakfast or a drink after a walk.

Bartender tips

  • A melon is ripe when the blossom end gives slightly under your thumb and smells sweet.
  • Freeze melon chunks in advance for a frosty, slushy texture without ice.

Variations

Minty melon
Add 5 mint leaves for an even fresher finish.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use cantaloupe instead of honeydew?

Yes. Cantaloupe gives a more orange colour and a stronger, musky melon flavour.

Is this smoothie vegan?

Yes, it is made only from fruit and tea.

Can I prepare it ahead?

It is best fresh, but it keeps for a few hours in a closed jar in the fridge. Shake before drinking.
