Smooth and milkshake-like, with peach aroma up front and a mild yoghurt tang in the finish.
About this smoothie
This is a classic breakfast smoothie built on dairy and soft summer fruit. Peaches bring fragrance and a little acidity, the banana adds body and natural sweetness, and natural yoghurt gives a light tang. Milk and yoghurt contribute protein and calcium, which makes the glass a little more filling than a pure fruit blend.
It works best in late summer when peaches are soft and aromatic. Out of season, frozen or tinned peaches (drained, in juice) are a reasonable stand-in.
Bartender tips
A frozen banana makes the smoothie thicker and colder without watering it down.
For a vegan version use soy yoghurt and an oat or soy drink.
Variations
Peach Oat Smoothie
Blend in 2 tbsp rolled oats for a more filling breakfast glass.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use frozen peaches?
Yes. Frozen peach slices work well and make the smoothie colder and thicker, so you may need a splash more milk.
Can I prepare it the night before?
It tastes best fresh. Kept airtight in the fridge it holds for about 12 hours; stir or shake before drinking.
Do I need to peel the peach?
No. The skin blends in easily in a good blender and adds colour.
