Taste
Creamy, fruity and gently spiced, with juicy apple and a warm cinnamon finish.
About this smoothie
Cinnamon is one of the most familiar baking spices, and its warm sweetness makes apples taste rounder and sweeter than they are. Half a teaspoon is enough to flavour the whole glass.
With yogurt and milk, the smoothie is creamy and brings some protein to the breakfast table. It is especially popular in autumn and winter, when apples are at their best and a cold smoothie still wants a little warmth.
Bartender tips
Ceylon cinnamon tastes finer and softer than cassia, which is the common supermarket cinnamon.
Add 1 tbsp rolled oats or half a banana if you want it thicker and sweeter.
Variations
Apple pie
Add 1 tbsp rolled oats, a pinch of nutmeg and a teaspoon of maple syrup.
Frequently asked questions
How much cinnamon should I use?
Half a teaspoon per glass is plenty. Too much makes the smoothie dusty and bitter.
Which apples are best?
Sweet, juicy red varieties such as Gala, Fuji or Braeburn.
