Blueberry Smoothie with Rocket

Blueberries hide the green of the rocket completely, so this smoothie turns out deep purple. The rocket only shows itself as a subtle, peppery finish.

About this smoothie

Blueberries get their deep colour from anthocyanins, natural plant pigments. They are sweet, slightly tart and blend into a thick, smooth texture. Half a banana adds body and extra sweetness.

Rocket is an unusual partner, but its peppery note works well with dark berries, much like black pepper with strawberries. Coconut water keeps the drink light and adds a mild sweetness. A fruity smoothie with a surprising twist.

Bartender tips

  • Frozen blueberries work very well and make the smoothie thick and cold.
  • Blueberry stains are hard to remove, so rinse your blender and glass right away.

Variations

With spinach
Replace the rocket with baby spinach if you prefer no peppery note.
