Frozen berries make this smoothie ice cold and deeply coloured without any ice. Banana brings sweetness, and a spoon of coconut oil adds a silky finish.

About this smoothie

Berry banana is a reliable all year smoothie, since frozen berry mixes are always in the freezer aisle. The berries bring fruity acidity, colour, fibre and vitamin C; the banana makes it sweet and creamy. Coconut oil adds a light coconut aroma and a rounder mouthfeel, but it is optional.

The smoothie suits breakfast, a snack or the time after sport. Because coconut oil hardens in contact with frozen fruit, melt it and blend it with the banana and water first, then add the berries.

Bartender tips

  • Let the berries thaw for 5 minutes if your blender struggles with frozen fruit.
  • Use milk or a plant drink instead of water for a creamier version.

Variations

With yoghurt
Add 3 tbsp natural yoghurt for a thicker, tangier smoothie.
