Banana Strawberry Smoothie with Rice Milk

Taste

Fruity and gently sweet, with a light, silky texture; lighter than a version with dairy milk.

About this smoothie

Strawberry and banana is probably the most familiar smoothie pairing there is, and for good reason: the banana brings body and sweetness, the strawberries add freshness and a little acidity. Rice milk is naturally sweet and very mild, so it lets the fruit take the lead, and it is free of dairy, soy and nuts. Strawberries are a good source of vitamin C, while bananas provide potassium. The smoothie works well for breakfast, as an afternoon snack or for children who prefer mild flavours.

Bartender tips

  • A frozen banana makes the smoothie thicker and cold without ice.
  • Rice milk is thin; if you like it creamier, add a spoonful of oats before blending.

Variations

With oat milk
Swap the rice milk for oat milk for a slightly fuller, rounder body.

Frequently asked questions

Is this smoothie vegan?

Yes. Rice milk is plant based, so the recipe contains no animal products.

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes. Frozen berries make it thicker and colder; let them sit for two minutes before blending.

Can I prepare it the night before?

It keeps covered in the fridge for up to a day, but the banana darkens a little. Stir or shake before drinking.
