Rice milk is thinner and sweeter than most plant drinks, so this banana smoothie turns out light rather than heavy. A little honey rounds off the green notes.

Light and sweet, with banana, a mild rice sweetness and a soft green note.
About this smoothie
Rice milk is made from rice and water and tastes naturally sweet, because part of the starch is converted into sugars during production. It is lower in protein and fat than cow's milk or soy drink, which makes it light and very mild.
That mildness suits banana and spinach well. The banana brings creaminess and potassium, the spinach colour and vitamin K. The honey is optional; with a very ripe banana you will hardly need it.
Bartender tips
Taste before adding honey: rice milk is already sweet.
Rice milk is quite thin; use a frozen banana if you prefer a thicker smoothie.
Variations
Vegan version

Frequently asked questions
Is this smoothie vegan?
Not with honey. Use agave syrup or skip the sweetener and it is.
Why is rice milk sweet?
During production, enzymes break down part of the rice starch into sugars. Most rice drinks have no added sugar.
Is rice milk suitable for people with allergies?
It contains no milk, soy or nuts, which is why many allergy sufferers use it. Always check the label for your specific needs.
