Baby Spinach Pineapple Smoothie with Basil

Pineapple is one of the best partners for spinach: sweet and tangy enough to hide every trace of leafiness. Three basil leaves add a surprising, peppery herbal note.

About this smoothie

Pineapple and basil may sound unusual, but the combination is well established in desserts and drinks: the herb's sweet, slightly peppery aroma complements the tropical fruit. Baby spinach adds colour and greens without much flavour of its own.

Pineapple provides vitamin C, and spinach contributes folate and vitamin K. It is a bright, light green smoothie that works well as a first step into green drinks or as a refreshing afternoon glass.

Bartender tips

  • Basil is strong in a smoothie; start with three leaves and add more only after tasting.
  • Frozen pineapple chunks give a thicker, colder smoothie.

Variations

Creamy green
Add half a banana for a thicker, sweeter smoothie.
