Avocado Blueberry Smoothie with Raspberries

Half an avocado gives this berry smoothie a texture close to a milkshake, even though the only liquid is water. Blueberries and raspberries turn it a deep violet and keep it pleasantly tart.

About this smoothie

Avocado is one of the few fruits that is rich in fat rather than sugar, which is why it blends into such a smooth, full texture. Its own taste is mild and nutty, so it happily takes a back seat to stronger flavours.

Here those flavours come from blueberries and raspberries, both of which contain vitamin C and fibre, while the red apple adds natural sweetness. Made with water instead of milk, the smoothie stays dairy free and light. It works well for breakfast or as an afternoon snack.

Bartender tips

  • Use frozen berries for a colder, thicker smoothie without ice.
  • If the berries are very sour, add a teaspoon of honey or agave syrup.

Variations

With banana
Replace the apple with half a banana for a sweeter, even creamier version.
