Taste
Rich and creamy, with sweet pear, buttery macadamia and a gentle green note.
About this smoothie
Macadamias come originally from Australia and are known for their buttery texture and high fat content, mostly monounsaturated fat. A small handful is enough to make a smoothie noticeably creamier and more filling.
Pear and apple bring natural sweetness, and fine oats add body and fibre. Lamb's lettuce is one of the mildest salad greens, with a slightly nutty flavour that suits the macadamias. This is a rich smoothie, best as a breakfast or a substantial snack rather than a light refreshment.
Bartender tips
Soak the macadamias in water for a few hours for an even smoother texture in a standard blender.
Use unsalted, unroasted nuts; salted ones make the smoothie taste odd.
Variations
With cashews
Cashews are cheaper and also very creamy; use the same amount.
Frequently asked questions
Is this smoothie vegan?
Yes, it is completely plant based.
Can I leave out the nuts?
Yes, then you have a lighter pear smoothie with oats.
Does my blender need to be powerful?
A strong blender helps with nuts. With a weaker one, soak the macadamias first or use 1 tsp nut butter instead.
