Raspberry Smoothie with Yogurt and Matcha

Tart raspberries and grassy matcha are an unusual but well matched pair. Yogurt and banana soften the edges and make the smoothie thick and creamy.

About this smoothie

Matcha is powdered green tea, so it brings caffeine, a gentle bitterness and a grassy aroma. With raspberries, which are known for their fibre and fresh acidity, it creates a lively contrast. Natural yogurt adds tang and some protein, and half a banana provides sweetness and body.

The smoothie turns a dusky pink rather than green, because the berries dominate the colour. It is a good breakfast drink when you want a little caffeine without coffee.

Bartender tips

  • Strain the smoothie through a sieve if the raspberry seeds bother you.
  • Frozen raspberries give a colder and thicker result.

Variations

Without matcha
Leave out the matcha for a caffeine free raspberry yogurt smoothie.
