Blackberry Smoothie with Yogurt and Matcha

Blackberries make this smoothie darker and deeper in flavour than the raspberry version. Matcha adds a quiet green tea note, yogurt and banana the creaminess.

About this smoothie

Blackberries have a deeper, winier flavour than raspberries and a dark purple colour. They are known for their fibre content. Matcha, the ground green tea, adds caffeine and a slightly bitter, grassy aroma, while natural yogurt and banana make the drink creamy and balance the acidity.

Late summer, when wild blackberries are ripe, is the best time for this smoothie, but frozen berries give good results all year round.

Bartender tips

  • Sweeten with a little honey if your blackberries are very tart.
  • A strong blender breaks down the seeds better; otherwise strain it.

Variations

Mixed berries
Use half blackberries and half raspberries for a fruitier, lighter smoothie.
