Pineapple Pear Smoothie with Fresh Mint

Taste

Mellow and juicy, with a soft pear sweetness, pineapple tang and a cool mint finish.

About this smoothie

Pear and pineapple complement each other nicely: the pineapple is bright and tangy, the pear soft, juicy and gently perfumed. Together they give a smoothie that is sweet without being heavy. A few mint leaves add a cooling note that makes it particularly pleasant on warm days.

Pears are a good source of fiber, much of it in the skin, so leave it on. A ripe pear yields slightly near the stem; hard pears taste bland and blend less smoothly. This smoothie fits a light breakfast, an afternoon break or a drink after exercise.

Bartender tips

  • A very ripe pear makes the smoothie creamier; hard pears stay grainy.
  • Chill the fruit beforehand for a colder drink without ice.

Variations

With lime
Add the juice of half a lime for a sharper, more zesty glass.
