Oranges and Baby Spinach Smoothie

Orange is the ideal partner for a first green smoothie: its sweetness and acidity cover the spinach almost completely. What you get is a fresh citrus drink with a pale green colour.

About this smoothie

Baby spinach has tender leaves and a much milder flavour than mature spinach, so it blends easily into fruit smoothies. Spinach contains vitamin K and folate, and oranges are well known for their vitamin C. Using whole peeled oranges rather than juice keeps the fibre and gives the drink more body.

This smoothie is vegan, light and works well at breakfast. It is a good introduction for anyone who is new to green smoothies.

Bartender tips

  • Blend the spinach with the water first, then add the oranges, for a perfectly smooth texture.
  • A few ice cubes make this light smoothie even more refreshing.

Variations

Tropical green
Add 80 g of frozen mango for a thicker, sweeter glass.
