Taste

Thick, smooth and gently sweet, with ripe pear and a light cereal note.

About this smoothie

Oat smoothies are a practical answer to a rushed morning. Oats bring complex carbohydrates and fibre, including beta glucan, and quark and milk add protein, so the glass keeps you going longer than a pure fruit smoothie. The pear provides sweetness and a soft, aromatic flavour, which means no extra sugar is needed.

It works as breakfast, as a mid morning snack or after training. Because oats keep absorbing liquid, the smoothie thickens as it stands; drink it within about 15 minutes or thin it with a little more milk.

Bartender tips

  • For an extra smooth texture, soak the oats in the milk for 10 minutes before blending.
  • A very ripe pear gives the most flavour; hard pears make the smoothie bland.

Variations

Spiced pear
Add a pinch of cinnamon and a little grated nutmeg for a wintery version.

Frequently asked questions

Can I prepare it the night before?

Yes, as overnight oats: mix oats and milk in the evening, keep chilled and blend with pear and quark in the morning.

Can I make it vegan?

Use oat milk and a plant based yoghurt instead of milk and quark.

Can I use instant oats?

Yes. Instant oats blend even more smoothly; use the same amount.
