Honeydew melon is mostly water, which makes this one of the lightest smoothies you can blend. Fresh strawberries bring aroma, and frozen berries chill it down and deepen the pink.

Taste
Light, juicy and cold, with sweet melon, strawberry aroma and a slight tartness from the berries.
About this smoothie
Melon smoothies are a summer staple because the fruit is so juicy that you need very little extra liquid. Honeydew adds a honeyed, floral sweetness, strawberries contribute their familiar aroma and are known for their vitamin C content, and a portion of frozen mixed berries replaces ice cubes while adding colour.
The result is a thirst-quenching glass rather than a filling meal. It fits a hot afternoon, a light breakfast next to something more substantial, or a break after sport.
Bartender tips
A ripe honeydew smells sweet at the stem end and gives slightly under your thumb.
Add the water gradually: very ripe melon may need almost none.
Variations
Cantaloupe twist
Swap the honeydew for cantaloupe for a more orange colour and a deeper, musky melon flavour.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a different melon?
Yes. Cantaloupe or Galia work well; watermelon makes the smoothie even thinner, so skip the water.
Is this smoothie vegan?
Yes, it contains only fruit and water.
Can I prepare it ahead?
Melon smoothies separate quickly, so blend just before serving or shake well before drinking.
