Lamb's Lettuce Mango Smoothie with Spirulina

Mango is probably the best fruit to pair with spirulina: its strong sweetness and creamy flesh easily cover the alga's sea like note.

About this smoothie

Spirulina, a dried blue green alga, is known for its protein content and intense colour but has a flavour many find challenging. A whole ripe mango, rich in beta carotene and vitamin C, provides plenty of sweetness and a creamy body to balance it. Lamb's lettuce adds a mild nutty green note, and half a pear makes the smoothie juicier.

The result is fruity, filling and olive green, a good breakfast smoothie for anyone curious about spirulina.

Bartender tips

  • Frozen mango makes it colder and even creamier.
  • Rinse the blender straight away; spirulina stains.

Variations

Coconut version
Replace the water with coconut water for a more tropical flavour.
