About this smoothie

Kiwi is one of the best sources of vitamin C among common fruits, and its tangy, slightly tropical flavour works well with dairy. Natural yoghurt adds protein and creaminess, while half a banana supplies sweetness and body so no sugar is needed. Water keeps the smoothie light.

It is a good breakfast or afternoon smoothie. Kiwi contains an enzyme called actinidin that can make yoghurt taste bitter if the smoothie stands for a long time, so drink it soon after blending.

Bartender tips

  • Blend only briefly to avoid crushing the kiwi seeds, which can taste bitter.
  • Use milk instead of water for a creamier version.

Variations

Golden kiwi
Use a golden kiwi for a sweeter, yellow smoothie with a more tropical flavour.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my kiwi yoghurt smoothie taste bitter?

An enzyme in kiwi reacts with dairy protein over time. Drink it fresh and blend it only briefly.

Is this smoothie vegan?

Not with dairy yoghurt; use a plant based yoghurt instead.

Do I need to peel the kiwi?

Peeling gives a smoother result, but green kiwi skin is edible and can be blended in if washed well.
