Ginger Tangerine Smoothie

Sweet mandarins and a ripe nectarine make the base, and a small piece of fresh ginger gives it a lively heat. Half a banana adds just enough creaminess.

About this smoothie

Ginger and orange citrus are a familiar pairing in teas, marmalades and juices, and they work equally well in a smoothie. The mandarins bring sweetness and mild acidity, the nectarine adds juicy stone fruit flavour, and banana gives body.

Canned mandarins are convenient and available all year; fresh tangerines or clementines work just as well in winter. Citrus provides vitamin C. A warming, fruity smoothie for colder mornings.

Bartender tips

  • Adjust the ginger to taste: 5 g is mild, 10 g clearly spicy.
  • Choose mandarins in juice rather than syrup to keep it from getting too sweet.

Variations

Winter version
Use 2 fresh clementines and half a pear instead of the canned mandarins and nectarine.
