About this smoothie

Iceberg lettuce rarely appears in smoothie recipes, yet it is one of the easiest greens to start with. It has a very high water content and an almost neutral taste, so it adds volume and a pale green colour without any bitterness.

The green apple does the main flavour work, ginger brings a gentle heat, and basil a sweet, peppery aroma. The result is a light, thirst-quenching drink, good for hot days or as a first green smoothie for anyone who dislikes strong leafy flavours.

Bartender tips

  • Use the crisp inner leaves of the iceberg; they are the sweetest and freshest.
  • Add a few ice cubes on hot days, the smoothie tastes best very cold.

Variations

With cucumber
Add 80 g cucumber for an even more hydrating, spa-water style drink.
