About this smoothie

Papaya and dragon fruit are the stars here. Papaya is soft, sweet and melon-like and is known as a good source of vitamin C. Dragon fruit (pitaya) has a very mild taste, but the red-fleshed variety brings an intense colour and tiny, crunchy seeds. Blueberries add a little tartness, and banana makes the texture creamy.

This is a sweet, dairy-free fruit smoothie that works as a light breakfast or a colourful afternoon drink.

Bartender tips

  • White-fleshed dragon fruit tastes the same but leaves the smoothie much paler.
  • Squeeze in a little lime juice to lift the mild papaya.

Variations

Coconut version
Replace half the water with coconut milk for a creamier, more tropical glass.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find dragon fruit?

Most larger supermarkets sell it fresh; frozen pitaya cubes are a good alternative.

Is this smoothie vegan?

Yes, it contains only fruit and water.

Can I use frozen fruit?

Yes. Frozen papaya, pitaya or blueberries all work and make the smoothie colder.
