Taste
Creamy and fruity, with tart raspberry, mellow banana and a cool touch of mint at the end.
About this smoothie
The old site listed this one as a coconut smoothie, although the recipe contains no coconut at all, so here it goes by what is actually in the glass. Raspberries bring colour, aroma and fibre, and they are a source of vitamin C. The banana adds sweetness and body, so no sugar is needed.
Milk makes the smoothie creamy and adds some protein, which makes it a good breakfast or an afternoon snack. Keep the mint to a few leaves: too much and it tastes like toothpaste.
Bartender tips
Frozen raspberries work just as well and make the smoothie thick and cold.
If the seeds bother you, pour the blended raspberries through a fine sieve before adding the rest.
Variations
Coconut twist
Swap the milk for a coconut drink to give the smoothie the coconut note its old name promised.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use frozen raspberries?
Yes. Use them straight from the freezer; the smoothie gets thicker and colder.
Can I make it vegan?
Yes, replace the milk with an oat, soy or coconut drink.
Why is there no coconut in it?
The original recipe had the word coconut in its name but not in its ingredients. The variation above shows how to add it.
