Berry Rocket Smoothie with Oat Milk and Raisins

Frozen berries make this smoothie cold and thick straight away. Oat milk softens the peppery rocket, and a few sultanas sweeten it without any added sugar.

Taste

Creamy and fruity with tart berries, a mild sweetness from the sultanas and a faint peppery finish.

About this smoothie

Rocket is peppery on its own, but in a smoothie with berries and oat milk it becomes a subtle spicy note in the background. Baby spinach adds greens without much flavour. The dark berries dominate the colour, so the drink looks deep purple rather than green.

Sultanas are an old trick for natural sweetness: soaked briefly or blended well, they disappear completely. Berries are known to be rich in vitamin C, and oat milk gives a creamy base that suits breakfast.

Bartender tips

  • Soak the sultanas in the oat milk for 10 minutes if your blender is not very strong.
  • Let the frozen berries thaw for five minutes so they blend more easily.

Variations

Dates instead of sultanas
Use two pitted dates for a caramel-like sweetness.
