Banana Spinach Smoothie with Coconut Water

Coconut water gives this simple green smoothie a soft, nutty sweetness that plain water cannot. Banana and spinach do the rest.

About this smoothie

Coconut water is the clear liquid from young green coconuts, not to be confused with the much richer coconut milk. It is light, slightly sweet and naturally contains potassium, which makes it a popular smoothie base in warm weather. Here it meets banana for body and sweetness and baby spinach for colour, folate and vitamin K.

The drink stays thin and refreshing rather than creamy. It suits a hot day, a light breakfast or a glass after exercise.

Bartender tips

  • Choose pure coconut water without added sugar.
  • A frozen banana makes the smoothie thicker and colder.

Variations

Tropical version
Add 80 g pineapple or mango for a sweeter, more tropical glass.
