Apple Kiwi Smoothie

A sweet red apple and a tangy kiwi make this a crisp, easy green smoothie. A few spinach leaves deepen the colour without changing the fruity taste.

About this smoothie

Apple and kiwi are a reliable base for green smoothies: the apple brings mild sweetness and body, the kiwi a lively acidity and a lot of aroma. Baby spinach adds colour and greens with very little flavour of its own.

Kiwis are rich in vitamin C, and the apple adds fibre when the skin stays on. Light and quick to make, it is a good smoothie for breakfast or as a fresh drink between meals.

Bartender tips

  • Blend kiwi only as long as needed; over blending crushes the seeds and can make it slightly bitter.
  • For a thicker smoothie, add half a banana or use a frozen kiwi.

Variations

Double green
Add a few slices of cucumber for an even fresher, lighter glass.

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave the kiwi skin on?

It is edible, but the fuzzy skin makes the smoothie rougher; peeling is recommended.

Is it vegan?

Yes, it contains only fruit, spinach and water.

Can I use a green apple?

Yes, a green apple makes it tangier and less sweet.
