About this smoothie

The cherimoya is native to the Andean valleys of South America and is also grown in southern Spain, from where much of the European supply comes. Its creamy white flesh is naturally sweet and blends easily, so it needs no extra sugar. The apple adds freshness and a little acidity, and milk makes the drink smooth and filling.

The smoothie suits breakfast or a sweet afternoon snack. Remove every black seed from the cherimoya, as they are not edible, and use a fruit that gives slightly when pressed.

Bartender tips

  • A squeeze of lemon juice keeps the colour bright and sharpens the flavour.
  • Cherimoya ripens at room temperature; once soft, keep it in the fridge and use it within a day or two.

Variations

Dairy free
Use oat or almond drink instead of milk.
