Nothing more than whiskey and lemonade, but the details matter: lots of ice, a good cloudy lemonade and a slapped mint sprig on top. Vanilla and caramel from the whiskey meet tart lemon for an effortless summer drink.

Farnell
Taste
Sweet-tart lemon with vanilla, caramel and a light charcoal note from the whiskey. Light, fizzy and very easy to drink.
History and origin
The Farnell is a simple whiskey and lemonade highball, and the origin of its name is not documented. It belongs to a long tradition: American whiskey mixed with lemon and sugar has been drunk since the nineteenth century, and whiskey with lemonade is one of the most common bar calls in pubs and at barbecues.
The best-known relative is the Lynchburg Lemonade, named after the Tennessee home of Jack Daniel's distillery, which adds triple sec and lemon-lime soda. The Farnell keeps it simpler, letting the whiskey and the lemonade speak for themselves.
Bartender tips
A cloudy, less sweet lemonade tastes more natural than clear lemon soda.
For a homemade version, mix 20 ml lemon juice, 15 ml simple syrup and soda water instead of lemonade.
Plenty of ice keeps the drink cold and slows dilution.
