The Three Wise Men is a bar shot whose name is a pun. The biblical three wise men visited the infant Jesus; the shot's three "wise men" are the men whose names are on the classic bottles: Jack Daniel, Jim Beam and Johnnie Walker.
It has no documented inventor and belongs to the loose family of party shots that combine several spirits, often with brand names at the heart of the joke. The best known offshoot is the Four Horsemen, which adds a fourth branded spirit, usually tequila.
Because it is pure spirit, it is one of the strongest shots on any list. Many people prefer to pour it over ice in a rocks glass and sip it slowly instead.
