Strawberry Raspberry Smoothie

Two red berries, half a banana and water: nothing distracts from the fruit here. Strawberries give sweetness, raspberries a sharper, more perfumed edge.

Strawberry Raspberry Smoothie

Taste

Fruity and bright, sweet strawberry with a tart, fragrant raspberry finish; medium thick and refreshing.

About this smoothie

This is about as straightforward as a berry smoothie gets. Strawberries and raspberries are both good sources of vitamin C, and raspberries also bring a fair amount of fibre from their tiny seeds. The half banana is there mainly for texture, so the drink is smooth rather than watery.

Because it is made with water, the flavour stays clean and fruity. It is light enough for a warm summer morning and pairs well with a slice of wholegrain bread or a bowl of muesli if you want a fuller breakfast.

Bartender tips

  • If the raspberry seeds bother you, press the smoothie through a fine sieve before serving.
  • Frozen berries work perfectly here and replace ice.

Variations

Creamy berry
Replace the water with milk or a plant drink for a creamier, milkshake style drink.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use frozen berries?

Yes. Frozen strawberries and raspberries make the smoothie thicker and colder.

Is this smoothie vegan?

Yes, it contains only fruit and water.

Can I leave out the banana?

Yes, but the smoothie will be thinner and tarter; add a few more strawberries to compensate.
