Coconut Blackberry Smoothie with Cinnamon

Cinnamon gives this berry smoothie a warm, almost autumnal character. Coconut milk makes it creamy, and the pear adds sweetness.

About this smoothie

Blackberries and cinnamon are a familiar pairing from crumbles and compotes. In this smoothie the berries provide colour, tartness and fibre, the pear natural sweetness and body, and coconut milk drink a creamy, mildly tropical base. A splash of milk softens the coconut flavour.

It is a good breakfast smoothie for late summer and autumn, when blackberries are in season. Ceylon cinnamon tastes softer and sweeter than the more common cassia cinnamon; either works here.

Bartender tips

  • Frozen blackberries give a thicker, colder smoothie.
  • Use coconut milk drink from a carton, not canned coconut milk, which is much heavier.

Variations

Vegan
Replace the milk with more coconut milk drink or with oat drink.

How much cinnamon should I use?

Half a teaspoon gives a noticeable but gentle spice; start with less if you are unsure.
