Chia Avocado Smoothie with Lamb's Lettuce

Without banana or sweet fruit, this green smoothie is creamy and fresh rather than sweet. Avocado gives it a velvety body, and a squeeze of lime keeps it lively.

About this smoothie

This is a green smoothie for people who do not want a fruit bomb. Avocado provides the creaminess and is known for its monounsaturated fat, lamb's lettuce adds a mild, nutty green note, and chia seeds, a source of fibre, thicken the drink further. The original recipe uses nothing sweet at all; a teaspoon of agave syrup and a little lime juice make it rounder and fresher.

It works as a light, savoury-leaning breakfast or a filling snack.

Bartender tips

  • Add half an apple or pear if you want a fruitier version.
  • Lime juice also keeps the avocado from turning brown.

Variations

Cucumber twist
Add a few slices of cucumber for an even fresher, more savoury glass.
