About this smoothie

Kiwis are well known for their high vitamin C content, and their tangy flavour is a good match for mild, buttery avocado. The avocado adds monounsaturated fat and a smooth texture that makes the smoothie more satisfying. The tiny black kiwi seeds stay whole in most blenders and give a slight crunch.

This green smoothie is good for breakfast or as a light snack. If your kiwis are very tart, a teaspoon of honey or half a banana balances them; golden kiwis are naturally sweeter.

Bartender tips

  • Avoid blending too long: crushed kiwi seeds can make the smoothie slightly bitter.
  • Golden kiwis make a sweeter, milder version.

Variations

With banana
Add half a banana for a sweeter, even creamier smoothie.

Frequently asked questions

Is this smoothie vegan?

Yes, if you use agave or maple syrup instead of honey, or leave it unsweetened.

Why does my kiwi smoothie taste bitter?

Usually from over blending the seeds or from unripe kiwis. Blend briefly and use soft, ripe fruit.

Can I prepare it ahead?

Best fresh; avocado browns and the kiwi flavour can turn bitter after a few hours.
