About this smoothie

Chia seeds come from a plant in the sage family native to Central America. They absorb liquid and form a gel, which is why they thicken smoothies, and they contain fibre and omega-3 fatty acids. Here they are paired with a sweet red apple and mild baby spinach. The result is a fruity, filling green smoothie that works well for breakfast. Let it rest briefly before drinking.

Bartender tips

  • Drink a glass of water alongside, as chia seeds absorb a lot of liquid.
  • For a smoother texture, grind the chia seeds with the fruit instead of stirring them in whole.

Variations

With banana
Add half a banana for a creamier, sweeter smoothie.
