Sex on the Beach, the original, is a vodka, peach schnapps, orange and cranberry cocktail that became hugely popular in the 1980s, the decade in which peach schnapps boomed in the United States. Its exact origin is unclear, and several bars in Florida and elsewhere have been named in different stories.
The alcohol-free version usually goes by the playful name Safe Sex on the Beach. It replaces the vodka with nothing and the peach schnapps with peach nectar or syrup, which keeps the fruity profile and the orange to red colour gradient of the original. It is a regular on mocktail menus and at parties because the ingredients are easy to find.
