The Redheaded Slut is an American party shot from the era of provocatively named shooters, and it became widespread along with the rise of Jägermeister as a bar shot in the United States from the 1990s. No inventor is documented. Jägermeister itself is a German herbal liqueur from Wolfenbüttel, made with 56 botanicals, but the shot has nothing to do with Germany beyond the bottle.
The name refers to the drink's reddish colour. It follows the simple formula of many shots of the time: a spirit or liqueur, a fruit liqueur and a juice, shaken and strained. Some bars serve it longer, over ice in a rocks glass.
