Jägerbomb
Taste
Sweet and fizzy, with anise, licorice and bitter herbs from the Jägermeister under the fruity tang of the energy drink.
History and origin
The Jägerbomb is a bomb shot, a style in which a shot glass is dropped into a larger glass of mixer and drunk at once, like the older Boilermaker with beer. It rose to popularity in bars in the late 1990s and 2000s, after energy drinks such as Red Bull became widely available, and it is especially associated with student and club culture in the United States, the UK and Australia.
Jägermeister itself is a herbal liqueur from Wolfenbüttel in Lower Saxony, Germany, made with dozens of botanicals. The drink has no known creator; it spread from bar to bar and is still one of the most ordered shots worldwide.
Bartender tips
Pouring the shot in instead of dropping the glass is safer and tastes the same.
Ice-cold Jägermeister is much smoother; keep the bottle in the freezer.
Caffeine can mask the feeling of drunkenness, so limit yourself to one and drink water alongside.
Variations
Jäger Mule
Jägermeister with ginger beer and lime over ice, a longer, less sweet drink.
