Shape and purpose
A punch bowl is a wide, deep bowl of glass, ceramic or metal, typically holding several litres. It usually comes with matching small cups of about 100 to 150 ml and a ladle. The wide opening makes it easy to serve and to add ice or garnish.
Which drinks belong here
Traditional punches with spirit, citrus, sugar, spice and water or tea, sparkling punches with wine or soda, and German Bowle made with fruit and wine.
Tips
- Use one large ice block instead of cubes. It melts slowly and dilutes the punch gradually.
- Prepare the base ahead and add sparkling wine or soda just before guests arrive.
- Float thin citrus wheels or fresh fruit on top for aroma and looks.
- Plan about 150 to 250 ml per person per hour at the start of an event, and offer an alcohol-free option alongside.
