Shape and purpose

The Nick and Nora looks like a small wine glass with a tulip-shaped bowl. It usually holds about 120 to 180 ml, which suits classic drink sizes well. The taller, narrower bowl keeps liquid away from the rim, so it spills less than a cocktail glass, and it concentrates aroma toward the nose.

The name

The glass is named after Nick and Nora Charles, the cocktail-loving detective couple in the film The Thin Man (1934), which was based on the Dashiell Hammett novel.

Which drinks belong here

Stirred, spirit-forward drinks served without ice: Martini, Martinez, Manhattan variations and small shaken sours.
